According to chart data, the former TDE rapper’s latest has earned him the number one spot in the rap category with 1.4 billion streams on Spotify.
NAV’s Demons Protected by Angels, Jack Harlow’s Come Home The Kids Miss You, Drake and Her 21 Savage’s Her Loss and Future’s I NEVER LIKED YOU reportedly made the top five.
Chart data, he confirmed to HipHopDX, that the stream “does not guarantee a 2022 stream.” The ranking includes a lifetime stream of his projects with release dates in 2022. Nav’s “Lemonade” and his Internet Money collaboration are featured on Nav’s 2022 album Demons Protected by Angels. It was released as a single in 2020. Since Kendrick’s Big Steppers album was the first rap album to surpass one billion streams back in August, it shouldn’t be too shocking to see him raise the championship trophy at the end of 2022.
K. Dot’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, his first solo album in five years, was released in May, putting an end to the Compton rapper’s album hiatus. With a first-week sales total of 296,000 copies, he ended up ranking sixth in terms of first-week earnings in 2022.
Fan accolades aside, Lamar’s latest creation earned the respect of his peers, with Russ winning Kendrick’s “Father Time” Song of the Year.
The Compton native could add hardware to his trophy case in 2023. Kendrick has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards for his latest album. He won Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Music Video for “The Heart Part 5”, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
He also won his three 2022 HipHopDX Awards for Best Rapper, Best Hip Hop for His Album (Mr. Moral & The Big Steppers), and Best Music Video (“The Heart Part 5”). The rap gods are heading into the better part of 2022, wrapping up their Big Steppers tour in New Zealand last month after touring 76 shows in 16 countries on three different continents. Kendrick wrapped up his final performance, promising fans that it wouldn’t be his last time on stage and that he would return in the future.
